NFRCC 2022-23 Speaker Series

Marlis Butcher is an environmental conservationist and a Fellow of the Royal Canadian Geographical Society and of The Explorers Club.  In July 2019 Marlis became the first visitor to bag (visit) all 47 Canadian national parks, 1/3 of which have no road access. To share the park experience and encourage appreciation of these natural wonders.

Rick will share with attendees his vast knowledge on shooting successful Portraits. “One of the greatest things about being a freelance photojournalist is the great variety of assignments I get to cover and the places I get to go. I could be covering the President one day, spending the following day with a noted scientist or professor (or both) and the following day over seas on a travel story. I truly have the best job in the world”.

Charles Needle is an award-winning, Colorado-based fine art photographer, author, speaker and workshop leader with a unique eye for design and artistic interpretation.  His popular “Art of Nature” creative macro workshops have attracted students nationwide. 

A photograph that manages to evoke a feeling in a viewer is a moody photograph. Capture mood in photography using various techniques; lighting, composition and atmospheric conditions. Moody photographs may be: dreamy, peaceful, gloomy, vibrant, romantic, lonely, mysterious and so much more. Be inspired to look beyond the ordinary. Don’t just document the obvious world around you. 

Zelinski’s presentation of “NIAGARA: Land Between Waters” brings exquisite focus to the environmental treasures of the Niagara Peninsula, and to the diverse communities that thrive within Niagara Region. The show includes photos and stories from his global travels, and a species-naming contest to win a signed copy of one of his books (valued at $50). 

Aperture, Shutter Speed, and ISO are the three most important camera controls that every photographer needs to understand – but how do you determine what is the correct exposure to begin with?

Discover another universe — the small world. Learn to see, that is notice the “everyday details” around us all the time. This program will introduce the equipment and techniques needed to photograph the beauty and drama of the close-up and macro world. Technical, aesthetic, and creative aspects of Close-up and Macro Photography will be discussed. 

Jeff Vogan received his first camera as a graduation present, inheriting his love of photography from his Dad.  His passion for sports photography started when his son started playing sports. In 2016 he made the decision to leave the corporate world and pursue his passion for photography. 

This is not a hobby for weak hearted or those that want to stay clean, but the results are rewarding, and the images unique. Accomplished Macro insect photographer Gail MacLellan will guide you through all the techniques, gear, and preparations needed how to capture stunning images of insects and the world they live in.

We’ve all seen landscape images that make us want to be there but what makes them different from the plethora that we don’t glance at twice?  A good landscape (or seascape) makes us pause and at least briefly imagine ourselves there.  

Monique Campbell will show over 80 photos in her 75 minute talk; “Building Confidence to Shoot Street,” including several before and after images that show her post production work. Her stories of her experiences will inspire both beginner and experienced street photographers.
