New this year, descend 180 feet in a glass-paneled elevator and explore the 2,200-foot long tunnel, leading to an observation deck at the river’s edge.

Night Photo Field Outing – Friday, March 10, 2023 @ 8:00 PM

Night shooting specialist Mark Bowie will lead a field trip to photograph Niagara Falls at night. He will demonstrate techniques and provide hands-on field instruction for determining nighttime exposures, focusing in the dark, shooting for detail in both land and sky, and shooting by artificial light. Learn how to capture the mystery, wonder and magic of the nocturnal landscape.

Location of the Shoot: We will walk down Clifton Hill to the Fallsview Trail to photograph the American Falls, Horseshoe Falls and the Niagara River. Mark plans to photograph until about 11pm.

Light Painting Outing – Friday, March 10, 2023 @ 10:15 PM

Combining moving lights, long exposures and some performance art photographers Scott Simons and Chris Empey will demonstrate the tools and techniques used to create dazzling night time images.
Participants should bring a tripod and cable release if they have them. Manual focus is a must for this and the ability to turn off long expsoure noise reduction is beneficial to not miss anything during the demonstration.

Join Gail MacLellan at the Niagara Falls Butterfly Conservatory located at 2565 Niagara Parkway, Niagara On The Lake, ON to put your new macro skills to the test from 8:00 AM to 10:00 AM.
The lush vegetation, waterfalls, and thousands of butterflies offers an abundance of macro photography opportunities.
Not sure where to start, check in with your host, Gail MacLellan for a list of items to look for to build you macro repertoire. She will be available throughout the event to answer questions and help get that shot you are looking for.

PLEASE NOTE: as we will be entering prior to regular business hours, pass the main entrance and turn in at the next entrance which will take you around the back of the building were staff will meet you and provide you access to the facility. You will be shooting prior to their regular business hours. They open to the public at 10:00 AM, if you wish to stay on past 10:00 AM you will be allowed to but remember that other patrons will also be in the conservatory after 10:00 AM.
