New this year, descend 180 feet in a glass-paneled elevator and explore the 2,200-foot long tunnel, leading to an observation deck at the river’s edge.

Night shooting specialist Mark Bowie will lead a field trip to photograph Niagara Falls at night.  He will demonstrate techniques and provide hands-on field instruction for determining nighttime exposures, focusing in the dark, shooting for detail in both land and sky, and shooting by artificial light.  Learn how to capture the mystery, wonder and magic of the nocturnal landscape.

Location of the Shoot: We will walk down Clifton Hill to the Fallsview Trail to photograph the American Falls, Horseshoe Falls and the Niagara River. Mark plans to photograph until about 11pm.

Suggestions of Equipment to Bring

• Warm Clothing to dress for the conditions (warm hands, feet and head are essential)
• Rain gear (if necessary)
• Consider bringing hand and foot warmers
• Tripod
  • DSLR or mirrorless camera (& the manual)
• Shutter Release (or use camera’s self-timer)
• Flashlight &/or Headlamp.
  • Small Lights for possible Light Painting.
• LED flashlights are particularly powerful & compact.

Combining moving lights, long exposures and some performance art photographers Scott Simons and Chris Empey will demonstrate the tools and techniques used to create dazzling night time images.
Participants should bring a tripod and cable release if they have them.  Manual focus is a must for this and the ability to turn off long expsoure noise reduction is beneficial to not miss anything during the demonstration.

Adding strobe to existing ambient light creates drama and wow factor in a portrait while still incorporating the environment. Join me for hands-on instruction as we explore compositions outside with a model and create some magic. You must register to attend this Location Portrait Shoot.

Join Gail MacLellan at the Niagara Falls Butterfly Conservatory located at 2565 Niagara Parkway, Niagara On The Lake, ON to put your new macro skills to the test from 8:00 AM to 10:00 AM. 
The lush vegetation, waterfalls, and thousands of butterflies offers an abundance of macro photography opportunities. 
Not sure where to start, check in with your host, Gail MacLellan for a list of items to look for to build you macro repertoire. She will be available throughout the event to answer questions and help get that shot you are looking for.

2. Cable release/remote control for your camera (mirror up/exposure delay/timer will also work)
3. Batteries & charger for your camera and flash
4. Tripod or beanbag for longer exposures
5. Macro lens (90mm, 100mm, or 105mm recommended)
6. Top mount flash for your camera

PLEASE NOTE: as we will be entering prior to regular business hours, pass the main entrance and turn in at the next entrance which will take you around the back of the building were staff will meet you and provide you access to the facility. You will be shooting prior to their regular business hours. They open to the public at 10:00 AM, if you wish to stay on past 10:00 AM you will be allowed to but remember that other patrons will also be in the conservatory after 10:00 AM.
